Japan Doctoral Dissertation Registration System

With a simple registration process and for a moderate fee of \36,750, JDR publishes on-demand (in Japan) your doctoral dissertation. Plus, your dissertation is simultaneously registered into ProQuest Information and Learning's global thesis network, UMI Dissertation Publishing, which allows your work to be sold across the world.

1. Basic Fee
   \36,750 (35,000 + 5% consumption tax) is all you need to pay.

(i) Japan ed.:
Two hardbound copies will be made for the above fee (data scanning, printing, binding, and *postage fees included). Please note that only one copy will be delivered to you, as one copy must be used for submission to the NDL (see 5. below. Additional copies can be purchased as \12,600 per volume.
*If you would like the documents and Dissertations to be delivered to outside Japan, the extra shipping costs will be charged.

(ii) International ed.:
Registration to ProQuest Information and Learning's UMI Dissertation Publishing network (free).

2. Copyright 

Copyright to the dissertation belongs to the author.

3. Royalties 

For the Japan ed., a 10% royalty will be paid from the eighth sold copy onwards annually. For the International ed., royalties will be paid in compliance with ProQuest's royalty schedules for dissertation products.

4. Format 

(i) Japan ed.:
A Japanese ISBN will be given to each title and will be distributed as an independent publication. The format of the Japan ed. will be bound in a light green buckram library B5 size (257 x 182 mm), hardcover, black lettering on spine. If you prefer a more luxurious exterior to the fruits of your doctoral research, we can provide cloth binding with gilt lettering only for authors willing to purchase 10 copies or more outright, with actual binding expenses in addition.

(ii) International ed.:
Your dissertation will be registered into ProQuest Information and Learning's UMI Dissertation Publishing network, allowing it to be searched and ordered by a global academic audience. Title and author name will be registered in English, regardless of the original language. Publishing format will be identical to other UMI dissertations.

5. Submission to the NDL

One copy of the Japan ed. will be submitted to the National Diet Library (NDL) of Japan, in accordance with Japanese law.

6. Time required for publication

(i) Japan ed.:
Within 30 days from agreement.

(ii) International ed.:
Within 90 to 120 days from agreement.
